The idea of establishing the Dental College and Hospital has been conceived with the notion of producing clinicians, teachers and researchers in the field of dentistry. The College constitutes an independent building with a floor area of 1,20,000 sq. ft. including a clinical hospital area distributed in such a manner so as to minimize the patient movement. The ultramodern equipment procured provides new state-of-the-art technology and gives ample opportunity to aspiring candidates having a quest for perfection. The location of this institution provides an ambient environment and a large patient inflow from the surrounding numerous villages and towns, which is vital for a student during the course of studies.
We strongly believe in the philosophy of education that has an emphasis on all aspects of teaching and learning. An outgoing dental graduate from our college would be better equipped to treat a variety of dental health problems with ease, comfort and confidence.
The college ensures an excellent academic record to prove the competitive efficiency of students. All in all, it is no wonder if these credentials form a strong inclination for any prospective dentist to grab an opportunity to get trained at such a reputed alma-mater of dentistry in Pune.
SDCH is run by the Sinhgad Technical Education Society (STES), Pune, founded by Prof. M. N. Navale. STES operates a large group of institutions across engineering, management, health sciences and allied fields in and around Pune.
The Vadgaon (Bk.) campus houses the college and hospital along with a central library, hostels and recreational facilities including a full-sized cricket ground, tennis courts and a swimming pool. Events are organised throughout the academic year. See the infrastructure and amenities page for more detail.
The Vadgaon (Bk.) campus of STES has an ideal environment with lush green surroundings and panoramic views. As the first STES campus, set on a vast and picturesque expanse, it became an attraction for students. As the number of institutes across various streams grew, it became known as the Education Hub of Pune. The campus spreads across a well-maintained expanse of 25 hectares, with 19 institutes and a school backed by comprehensive infrastructure. These institutes include Sinhgad Dental College and Hospital and colleges for Science, Polytechnic, Engineering, Diploma and Degree in Management, Mass Communication, Pharmacy and Education — earning it a reputation as one of the top educational campuses in Pune.
Situated on a hillock of the Sahyadri ranges, the campus offers the quiet ambience that suits learning. It lies within the Pune Municipal Corporation limits, 8 km from Deccan Gymkhana and 1 km from the Mumbai–Bangalore western bypass, at S. No. 44/1, Vadgaon (Bk.), with independent, spacious buildings for the various institutions along with supporting resources and facilities.
Pune's popularity has risen as internationally acclaimed brands and multinationals make the city part of their plans. A city that enjoys the best of all worlds, it has earned many nicknames — Hotbed of IT, Detroit of India, Cultural Capital, and most importantly the Oxford of the East.
The name Oxford of the East is the oldest and the most apt, as Pune has broken new ground in academics across all streams. Education has become a mainstay of Pune, drawing students from across the world. The growing demand for talent in IT, automotive, engineering and other sectors has only reinforced the city's standing as a centre of knowledge.
It is estimated that roughly 3,000 students graduate every year from engineering, IT, computer science, pharmacy, business administration, medicine and environmental science, and go on to make their mark globally. Pune also benefits from being close to Mumbai — about two and a half hours by road — along with progressive infrastructure, a welcoming character and a rich heritage of art, architecture, literature, music, theatre and sport.
The city is also home to nationally acclaimed research and training institutes, including the National Defence Academy (NDA), National Chemical Laboratory (NCL), Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL), National Institute of Virology (NIV), National Institute of Bank Management (NIBM), National Insurance Academy (NIA), Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA) and the Institute of Armament Technology (IAT). Pune is well connected by air, rail and road to all major Indian cities, particularly Mumbai, the financial capital of India.
